That's all, just "okay"? Don't you have any insights to offer or
more in depth strategic suggestions than the general policy I pro-
posed?

Russia got his supply center last year; this year it's my turn. At
least it better be my turn. Or put better yet, one way or another, I
*WILL* get a build. And I'm not particular where it comes from. I do
hope, however, that my cautious friendship with Russia can continue
at least for another year.

I think the orders deadline should be pushed back until 11:59pm Sunday
or Monday night since it's already Thursday and we still haven't
received the builds/disbandment results and those results intensely
affect not only our S'04 moves, but the diplomacy leading up to it as
well. I don't know what to say to you guys (AH, Germany or Russia) if
I have no idea where any of the new pieces are ...

Well, I was hoping for something more along the lines of who would
help who to go where. Keep in mind, now A Pie has been disbanded, Mar-
seilles is open to your advance. How? Although France has three new
supply centers, it only got two armies (both of which were built in
the north). If France comes after me, as it appears he will, he has
to get his fleet out of Marseilles and into the Mediterranean. A
French stab of Germany also appears imminent. He will be too busy
worrying about me and Germany to bother with you, allowing A Ven to
slip into Marseilles.
Moving F Adr-Tri will prevent Russia from seizing Trieste with a
retreat from Budapest.

Having my army in Bulgaria is as threatening to Rumania as is my fleet
to Sevastopol, yet you don't complain about that. I haven't attempted
an attack on Rumania, what makes you think I would attack Sevastopol?
Nothing should, because I won't. I am in even more dire need of an
army than I am a fleet, but my army is tied up watching your fleet. If
you would move your fleet back to Sevastopol, I would eventually be
able to maneuver the army in Bulgaria north to where it could assist
you against the Germans or Austrians. You see, it's to *YOUR* benefit
that I look ...

It would be appreciated. When you write that order make sure it is
"A Bud s A Alb-Tri" since I will be attacking Trieste from Albania.
That is because Austria is able to support it's own move into Trieste
(and thus bounce me), so I will need to use A Ser in support, instead
of as the main attack.

Am I deaf or blind? You already told me that. I know that's what you
think. Why do you keep repeating it? Forget the past, let's concen-
trate on the here & now (and future) ...

France *WILL* attack Germany. Those builds aren't Marines - they can't
swim across the Mediterranean to Italy or Africa - they are going
right across Flanders fields. Germany *MUST* use at least one army
to guard against the French menace. My bet is it will be A Kie,
though it could be A Sil (either alone, or with A Kie). That means
you could order: A Mos-Lvn, A War s A Mos-Lvn and A StP s A Mos-Lvn.
If he *DID* try to convoy to Prussia, then the A Lvn would be
destroyed because it wouldn't have anyplace to retreat. Hell, I'd
*WANT* him to convoy to Prussia! The added bonus is that A StP will
stay at home where it could support F Nwy in F'04 ...

> Could you explain to me WHY A Alb-Tri and not A Ser-Tri? You know,

If I supported a defense of Trieste from Albania, Austria could cut
that support with F Adr-Alb, then retake Trieste by ordering A Ven-Tri
and A Vie s A Ven-Tri. If I move A Alb-Tri (instead of A Ser-Tri),
that keeps my defensive support out of his clutches in Serbia. Plus,
I will still be able to support your attack on Vienna ...
> You haven't had such an nice opportunity till you broke the treaty

Talk about beating a dead horse ... Okay, how about if I instead
move A Bul-Gre?

To: Russia
> BTW, I still think that Germany will use A Sil-War. He's done

I don't know who would be more insane - him for trying it, or you for
thinking he might try it. There is ->NOTHING<- he can do to take War-
saw if you attack Livonia. An attack on Livonia would cut any support
it could give to an attack on Warsaw; that would result in 1:1 odds,
which are, by definition, a standoff.
> Let's see: F Nor Holds, A StP s F Nor, F Fin-GOB, A Mos-Liv,
> A War s A Mos-Liv, A Bud s A Alb-Tri;
No, no, no. If you do that, and he attacks Warsaw, then ->YOUR<-
support will be cut and ->YOU<- will be attacking at 1:1 odds.
Not only that, but he could then attack Warsaw from Livonia (with
->SUPPORT<- from Silesia), resulting in the loss of your supply
center. You must, if you want to dislodge the German army in Livonia,
attack with dual support! If you really want to screw the Germans
up, try moving F Nwy-Nth. From the North Sea you have your choice
of which supply center to take; they can't defend them all.
> Italy's Army in Rome holds. What about a retreat order for the
> Italian Army? I'd like him to stay in action till the Fall. I
> don't think I have to worry about any retreats.
You do for Warsaw (as I indicated above). A retreat of 1) A Rom-Ven,
and 2) A Rom-Tus will keep the Italians in the game if Austria moves
out of Venice.
> It's the principle of the thing. A treaty is a treaty. I'd much
> prefer to have the Fleet removed from the Black Sea per our Treaty!
What about the principle of threatening a neighbor? As you Christians
are so found of pointing out, you should remove the plank from thine
own eye, before you try to remove the sliver from mine.
> I was responding to your statement:
(blah, blah, blah)
Listen to me, see my words: No kidding. You told me that umpty-teen
times already. ->THAT<- is why I was inquiring if you thought I was
deaf or blind. The answer must be yes, because you just ignored my
message and replied with the exact same statements you have replied
with umpty-teen times already. Is this sinking in at all??? Good
Lord ...
> Thanks for explaning your move into Trieste. I didn't think about
> the defensive position for the Fall. It's hard to learn all the

Thinking about things like that is the reason I'm the most dominant
ruler on the continent. Yes, even more so than the French ...

> Germany mad. Germany is just giving England to France. Amazing!
Another statement ignored. If France isn't going to attack Germany,
what in God's name do you think he is going to do with ->TWO<- new
armies? Even ->IF<- he convoyed them into the Mediterranean, he
couldn't do them both at the same time. He cannot deploy ->EVEN ONE<-
of those new armies into the Mediterranean until S'05 ->AT THE
EARLIEST!<-
> Just looked at the map some more. I can see where you can take
> Naples this time. If you do, wouldn't your attack on Trieste fail

Absolutely not! What if Austria vacates Venice? Then the French army
in Naples could retreat to Rome (where it would get naval support in
F'04). No, Rome ->MUST<- hold. If the French don't get lucky, and get
defensive support from the Italians, his army is doomed.

How is Italy going to do that if Italy doesn't have a ruler who issues
consistent orders? Fact is that 4 out of 5 countries remaining in the game
(everybody but France) wants the Italians to do anti-French moves. If all
four of us issue the same Italian orders it will be to our collective
benefit. I told Russia and Germany the same thing (though I didn't mention
how it would benefit you). No matter what other conflicts there are in
Eastern Europe, we shuld all coordinate on Italian policy. Please order A
Ven-Pie, I cannot take on the French *AND* Russians alone ...

It won't be disbanded if he writes retreat orders for it (to Sevastopol)
but I should be able to take it out in F'04.

I suggest we declare a cease fire during Christmas week (i.e, not have
builds due on the 22nd, or moves on the 26th). I'm sure I'm not the
only one who will busy with family stuff next week. If we could push

I haven't seen our moves posted yet, so I don't know the results of
our attack on Trieste. I am sure, however, that I have Naples. Also,
now that my fleet is in Bulgaria (though on the east coast), I am
prepared to move it Constantinople in F'05. A Gre will just have to
sit tight until that fleet can redeploy and provide it with a convoy
to Italy. A Tri will be supporting A Bud-Vie this fall.

Well, you've seen the results. Now, straight from the keyboard of the GM,
you know why my units didn't move. As you know I was reluctant to move

My condolences on the loss of several hundred thousand brave German
soldiers. Losing an army in the depths of Russia is a lesson I hope

postponement of a possible alliance between our countries until we
are both stronger. Please keep the lines open.

To: Russia
I would offer you all the gold in Turkey, and carry it to you on my
knees, if I could. The bungled orders are surely a sign from Allah
that I should put more trust in my friends ...
The Germans and French really screwed themselves in the last campaign
season: France's internal unrest not only set it back politically,
but also resulted in the loss of one of it's fleets. Germany likewise
blundered in ordering it's army to hold at all costs, resulting in
your smashing victory in Livonia. With your fleet in the North Sea,
Germany must now guard many supply centers with only a few units; you
outnumber him in northern units by 5:4. That means you can either
retake Norway in F'04, or Sweden in S'05. Here's how:
A Lvn-Pru
A War s A Lvn-Pru
A StP-Nwy
F Nth s A StP-Nwy
F Fin-Swe
A Lvn-Pru forces the Germans to protect Berlin, but also allows you to
order A Pru-Sil, with support from Moscow, in S'05, followed by an
order of A War-Pru, supported by A Sil, in F'05. That would put *TWO*
Russian armies adjacent to Berlin! If Germany orders F Ska-Den, then
the above moves give you Norway. He cannot defend everything, though if
he guesses what you will do, you will have a much more difficult time.
I envy your possibilities!
Now, to more common interests:
Austria did the one thing he could have to save his butt - but only
because my F Ion was supporting a different attack. This fall, he will
not be so lucky. I suggest we two things: One, repeat our orders
against Austria and, two, order Italy's A Rom-Ven. I will also order
F Ion-Adr. There are three possible outcomes:
1) If Austria makes the same moves, F Ion will cut the support of
Austria's F Adr resulting in favorable 3:2 odds against Trieste.
2) If, instead, Austria orders F Adr-Tri, with support from his
other units, the Italian army will cut the support from Aus-
tria's A Ven. The result would also be 3:2 odds against Trieste.
3) Austria's last option, ordering A Vie-Tri, again with the other
units supporting, would result in 3:1 (!) odds as both his sup-
ports would be cut as above.
Instead of screwing around with moving F Bla-Bul(ec), and tempting the
vagaries of modified orders, I will simply order F Bla directly to
Constantinople (even though the lack of a build garrison would pain me
greatly). I will also order A Bul-Gre.

After further analysis of the past season's campaign, I find that
I must continue on my present diplomatic course - cooperation with
the Russians against Austria and neutrality in regards to Russo-German
relations. You are indeed lucky there was unrest in France - if there
hadn't been, he would be maneuvering along the Rhine at this very
moment. He may yet, but if you order (Italy) A Rom-Ven, I will be
able to widen my Mediterranean front and thus be able to maneuver
more units against the French (which would be to your future benefit).

Sure he does, but if you do nothing, then you *STILL* lose a supply

gain.
> Will Germany be able to rebuild the unit that it lost in battle

Yes; anytime a country has more controlled supply centers (i.e.,
those he occupied at the end of any fall turn) than he has units,
he is allowed to build units. He merely screwed up in not writing
a retreat order, but that screw-up is providing you with a great
opportunity this season. And, if you are lucky, he might forget
that he gets a build for the missing unit, and not submit a build
order for it in the winter.

views: Your insight never ceases to amaze me. You foiled every single

from Budapest, you could instead lose Budapest (either to an Austrian
attack or to an even sneakier German move of A Gal-Bud).

P.S. - Don't quit now. You quit now and you will be throwing away all
the work you've put into this game over the last three months.

If he actually follows through with that disbandment, instead of, say,
F Nth, the temptation to attack will just be too strong for my consci-
ence to resist. Besides, as I told him, it would give the Germans an
easy build in either Rumania or Sevastopol. I obviously couldn't allow
this agression to occur in my sphere of influence and would be forced
to move into Russian territory in order to defend Russia ...

RU> You already know what I did - disband the Fleet in Sevastopol.
RU> I'm still pretty borderline since it appears the game has died.
RU> BTW, aren't moves due SATURDAY at 11:59 PM?
I'm forwarding this to Jim so he knows what you disbanded too. I already
told him what I was building. Hope he gets back to us with his builds
soon. Same with Austria, except his will probably be a civil disorder
disbandment, in which case the fleet would automatically be disbanded.
Are you sure it's saturday? Maybe Jim can tell us ...
Heck, might as well forward it to Ken and Michael ...
